"Virtual Reality" was much hyped in the 90s, and became a kind of cinematic fad, like 'atomic' was in the 50s. Looking back, there were many speculative ideas about what 'virtual reality' would be like, what it would be used for, and how it will affect humanity. "Virtual" became like "cyber" and science fiction movies and science fiction television shows as well as pornography all got on the 'virtual/cyber' bandwagon. What is most interesting about 'virtual reality' movies is how extensive they are and how far they took the ideas. Like 'atomic' in the 50s, with 'atomic mutations,' 'atomic soldiers,' and 'atomic brains,' there was "virtual" everything, invading every genre, virtual martial arts, virtual games, virtual troopers, virtual sex, virtual warfare, virtual mind control, virtual prisons and virtual beings.
